Looking back on the year 2017, it’s hard to not point to the fidget spinner as one notable thing that didn’t make us cry (most of the time). Here’s one more feel-good spinner story to close out the year. (Hopefully we’ll never have to hear about them again after this, but I can’t make any promises, folks.)
20-year-old Fiona Szilagy of Calgary, Canada, was visiting her grandmother, Joan Szilagy, in Lethbridge to celebrate her birthday recently. Despite her tender age of 85, Joan still knows how to have fun like a kid. Fiona explained that while her mother, Maria Szilagyi, was purchasing some gifts for Joan, Maria spotted a fidget spinner.
“My mom saw the fidget spinner at the checkout while she was buying other things and bought it for my grandma on impulse as a funny little gift,” Fiona said.
Joan had no clue what the fidget spinner was — according to Fiona, Joan thought it was “cute” — but her face says it all. Holy crap, they are really fun to spin, no matter how silly it looks.
Fiona tweeted about the gifts, and her post has since racked up over 3,000 likes.
One person shared their own grandmother’s fidget spinner experience.
This woman accurately predicted the fad would end very quickly.
Others just loved the wholesomeness in Joan’s reaction to the gift.
